Working at Height Courses

The module is designed to train personnel who work or are required to work at height.

The course is specifically aimed at personnel that is required to use personal fall protection equipment for access and egress that involve working at height in the workplace, or anyone that could fall from a distance.

Working at Height Course

This working at height course will train personnel on the correct procedures and actions to be followed when working at height. Personnel will learn the relevant and related statutory legislation including associated hazards when working at height and equipment used while working at height.

The module is a mixture of theory and practical and requires personnel attending the syllabus to demonstrate their individual knowledge and understanding in the working at height course.

Aims and Objectives

This working at heights course aims to give knowledge and understanding of the statutory requirements and their personal responsibility under the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and Working at Height Regulations 2005, other objectives include;

  • Ensure personnel attending the course are familiar with the requirements of the regulations
  • Presentation on Accident statistics, Understanding falls and behaviours, Risk Assessment, Hierarchy of measures, Safe use of ladders and steps, components and inspection of ladders, components of a fall arrest system
  • Made aware of various types of hazards associated with working at height
  • Describe the main dangers of working at height
  • Aware of different types of working platforms and scaffold towers
  • Proper planning working at height
  • Familiar with safe systems of work when working at height
  • Carry out a risk assessment when working at height
  • Describe the main legislation that governs working at height
  • Use of different types of ladders and their safe use when working at height
  • Understand the hierarchy of controls while working at height
  • Demonstrate the ability to select and use a range of personal protective equipment when working at height
  • Personnel to describe and demonstrate correct methods of inspection, storing and maintaining working at height personal protective equipment
  • Working at height using lanyards/ropes, grillons, and other associated working at height equipment
  • Recording of Inspection of equipment and record keeping
  • Emergency arrangements including rescue and emergency procedures, including suspension
  • How to demonstrate fall arrest and work positioning systems and equipment
  • Harnesses, lanyards and helmets are to be properly used
  • Safe working practices at all times
